Coronavirus update:
I am currently teaching lessons over Zoom, and beginning to teach in-person, in a well-ventilated space with physical distancing and rigorous cleaning.

Zoom lessons option - have a good set-up with high quality audio and webcam, and have made adjustments to my teaching to ensure I can offer the same quality tuition as before. I send detailed feedback and practice notes after each lesson, often including pieces, materials and exercises I have written specifically for the pupil.

While we are all stuck at home this could be an opportunity for your child to make good progress with their violin, or for you set yourself a new challenge as an adult beginner, or pick up where you left off after learning as a child!

I love teaching violin and sharing my passion for music with children.I have experience teaching 5 year olds upwards (including many adults!) at all levels from beginner to Grade 8, in individual, small group and occasionally whole class groups (in schools!).

I studied pedagogy at the Royal Northern College of Music, including Dalcroze method, Kodaly method, and the 2002 'A Common Approach'. I have since studied the Colourstrings system too. My teaching style is constantly evolving, and I am a member of the European String Teacher's Association, to ensure I am always at the forefront of new research and developments. I believe in teaching children music holistically, so a technical exercise for left hand fingers becomes also a chance to develop rhythm, a musical ear, and portray a musical character. I find this method keeps children engaged, enthusiastic, and keen to practice as well as fostering rapid technical development.

My own performing career is mainly orchestral - I studied at the Royal Northern College of Music with Miranda Playfair, and now play with Outcry Ensemble, Arch Sinfonia, Melos Sinfonia, London Graduate Orchestra, Aleph Orchestra and many ensembles around London. I believe playing music with others is the biggest motivator for musical progress and I encourage all my pupils to join ensembles as early as possible ( I can recommend local groups usually).
