Thanks for stopping by!

I am a musician of considerable professional experience, both as a teacher and a performer. A former student of the prestigious Chetham's School of Music, I went on to study at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (formerly Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama) at both undergraduate and masters level under Helen Lawson.

My performance career so far has taken me to many fantastic venues including the Royal Albert Hall as part of the BBC Proms series, the Royal Festival Hall, Bridgewater Hall and the Usher Hall for the Edinburgh International Festival. Further afield, I have toured the Czech Republic as a soloist with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra Chorus. I was also a member of the BBC Choir of the Year 2012, with Les Sirènes Female Chamber Choir. I have been fortunate through solo and choral endeavours to have the opportunity to work with some wonderful musicians including Sir Andrew Davis, David Hill, Louise Winter, Julian Tovey and Paul McCreesh.

I am a keen jazz singer and regularly perform with Chris Clarke and Jazz Two.

A violinist from the age of seven, I have a love for both classical and traditional music and have performed both as a soloist and ensemble player. I studied piano to a high standard from the age of nine.

As a teacher, I take a friendly and varied approach, whilst still ensuring each student a challenge, instilling the self discipline and drive required to flourish in their chosen area of study. I aim to teach technique, theory and expressive musicianship using ideas and strategies that students can take from the studio and apply in their own practice, fostering a musical self-sufficiency from the start. I actively encourage students to ask questions, experiment with sound and to interpret music organically, at the same time ensuring that the theory side of study is solid should the student wish to develop these skills.

I am a great believer in efficient and healthy technique to make sure that my students get the most longevity from their playing, as wellmas maximum enjoyment. Productive practice technique as well as correct warmup / cooldown is included from the beginning. For singers, I focus on natural release of the voice and offer a large range of breathing and vocal exercises to aid singers in getting to know their own voices.

I definitely think the best way to learn technique is through repertoire, so a wide range of repertoire is supplemented with exercises and studies, so that students can immediately see the application of what they are learning in a musical context.

For vocal students, the area of language is well covered. I offer coaching in French (of which I am a fluent speaker), Italian and German.

Students of all ages are welcome and those with learning difficulties equally so. I have extensive experience with autistim, as well as young people and adults with varied additional learning needs. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me and we can adapt lessons to ensure maximum comfort for all concerned.
Nervous students a speciality!

My pupils learn to use their ears, to trust their skills and, above all, to fall in love with their area of study.
