Biography

Australian-born conductor and multi-instrumentalist Sandra Horne began conducting at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. During that time, she held positions as the Assistant Conductor with Sydney University WInd Orchestra and The Beecroft Orchestra. She was also the Organ Scholar at St James Turramurra. Sandra was awarded the Layne Beachley Aim for the Stars grant for her conducting work. Sandra has recently finished an MMus at the Birmingham Conservatoire.

Sandra has extensive experience in music education both in classroom settings and as a private instrumental tutor. Having run successful instrumental studios in Australia and in London, she knows the importance of forming individualised lesson plans and practice structures. Depending on students wishes, preparation for ABRSM or Trinity exams is possible, as well as learning for fun.

Sandra has studied with a wide range of conductors including Daniele Rosina, Edwin Roxburgh, Myer Fredman, Alexander Polishchuk, Mark Stringer, Neil Thomson and John Farrer. She has worked with Marin Alsop, Sian Edwards, Julia Jones, Fabian Russell, David Danzmayr, Alexander Briger, Christopher Seaman and Sebastion Lang-Lessing in masterclasses. Sandra has also worked alongside Andrew King on Charpentier's Actéon and Fraser Goulding on Ravel's L'enfant et les Sortilèges and Holst's Salvitri.

In addition to her orchestral conducting and teaching, Sandra has worked in Musical Director. Her credits include Les Miserables (Trinity Theatre Company), The Addams Family (Wimbledon LOS), Oh, What a Lovely War! (Organised Crime Theatre Co), Honk! (AMD, Harlequins Theatre Co), Anything Goes (Dorking Dramatic and Operatic Society), Terry Pratchett's Mort: The Musical (AMD, Youth Musical Theatre: UK), Disney's My Son Pinocchio (Sydney Youth Musical Theatre) and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (Manly Musical Society). She has also worked as a Musical Director at the Urdang Academy in London, UK.
