Ms Kat Browning

I was raised with a rich cultural background in North Wales, where music was a huge part of my life; my immediate family are all musical, as well as some more distant relatives.

Initially, I was a folk musician, spending a great deal of time picking up tunes by ear on the penny whistle from the age of 5. Once I was old enough to start learning an orchestral instrument, I chose to play the clarinet - I had already fallen in love with the bass clarinet, and knew this was the way to get to learn to play it someday!

Since then I have grown through ABRSM grades and the local schools service, their subsequent bands and ensembles to graduate with a first class honours from the Leeds College of Music.
I have since gained a Masters of Music from Bangor University, where contemporary is prominent thanks to the Bangor New Music Festival.
My time at Bangor also saw me perform my first solo with an orchestra, Debussy's Premiere Rhapsodie.

I have been teaching 1:1 for over 10 years now. That experience has taught me that music is a living breathing thing; to *teach* music in any shape or form has to have certain building blocks:

- Respect

- Trust

- Willingness to learn something new from both tutor and pupil

On a related note, I have founded a concert series for Adult Musicians called the Tea and Jam Project - we are due to relaunch on the 1st of September in Manchester. Contact me at for more details!
