Paul Marshall has fifteen years of experience teaching both one to one and groups, and has been playing for over 35 years. His teaching technique is diverse and makes learning a pleasure, whether improving classical repertoire for exams, ripping through improvised solos, or simply enjoying the instrument as a songwriting tool. Adults, teenagers or juniors are welcome (DBS cleared). As well as studying jazz and classical guitar at degree level, Paul is more than capable of developing your creative musicality, having majored in composition, and having written prize winning pieces for guitar and flute, as well as composing for string quartet, piano, oboe and choir to name but a few. Paul was recently the driving force behind the CD (Soul Cookin') by Colchester based originals Americana band Ghost Train Porters. These guys have rocked venues from music festivals to London clubs, local theatres, and even enjoyed national airplay on Steve Lamacq's BBC Radio 2 show. Their styles encompassed Rock-a-billy, Country, Bluegrass, Rock, Blues, Funk, Jazz, Reggae, East European, and more. Right now, he is the bass player in the ever evolving Houston-Mayhead Sextet, whose set covers numerous jazz genres from standards to Cool, Latin to fusion, and beyond. More recently Paul's involvement in live music continued with his Folk 'Math' project Fishclaw as well as his recent rekindled partnership with songwriter Philip Marino who is rehearsing hard with his new Americana roots band with heavy country/roots influences.
Working in a Suffolk primary school Mr Marshall's appetite for teaching is quite evident. He is highly experienced and runs various clubs and ensembles, and has taught National Curriculum in Primary and secondary contexts.
Catch him performing with his latest band Spacecake onboard The Albatros at Wells-Next-The-Sea on 28th October. Also with established covers band Blueprint at the re-opening of the Kings Head Pub in Pebmarsh on 11 November, 2017.
