Biography

Joseph Griffin studied at the Purcell School before attending the Royal Academy of Music as a Worswick Scholar. Studying under Martin Outram, Joseph also regularly travelled to Leipzig to receive lessons from Tatjana Masurenko.

During his studies Joseph won numerous prizes including the Sidney Griller Memorial Prize, the Amadeus Scholarship and the James Wright Award. Further to winning the Academy’s string quartet competition in 2016, Joseph was appointed ‘Fellow of Chamber Music’ at the Academy. During the fellowship Joseph coached undergraduate string quartets, also appearing alongside the Nash Ensemble at the Wigmore Hall and the Doric Quartet at the Oxford Lieder Festival.

Joseph now freelances across the U.K and abroad, appearing with ensembles such as Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Cymru, and Manchester Camerata. He also enjoys teaching for London Music Masters, a charity focused on widening access to high quality instrumental tuition.
