Biography

Alexandra Tiffin – Mezzo Soprano

Alexandra was born in Liverpool. She was a member of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, with whom she went on a world tour, before entering the Royal Northern College of Music. Whilst at the RNCM she sang in numerous operas and excerpts including the title role in ‘Iolanthe’, Cherubino in ‘Il Nozze di Figaro’ and Florinda in Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Into the Woods’. In June 2002 Alexandra gained a B.Mus. (Hons) degree from the RNCM and went on to teach singing at Merchant Taylors’ School for Girls and at Chethams School of Music. She then continued her opera training at the Royal Academy of Music, studying with Glenville Hargreaves. Whilst at RAM she took part in masterclasses with Gillian Knight and Robert Tear and played the roles of Gertrude in Hamlet, Bradamante in Alcina, Olga in Eugene Onegin and Cornelia in Giulio Cesare. She was also commended in the Blyth Operatic Prize received a Distinction for her Postgraduate Diploma in Performance.
Alexandra has also sung professionally for opera companies and Oratorio concerts. Recent engagements have included Alto solos in the Messiah (Handel), Bach Magnificat and Mozart Requiem. She has also played the roles of Dorabella in Cosi Fan Tutte for Heritage Opera, Rosina in Il Barbiere Di Siviglia and Third Lady in Die Zauberflote for Dartington Opera. Chorus engagements have included Opera Holland Park’s productions of L’amore de tre Re, La Traviata, Queen of Spades and Rigoletto. Alexandra is also a regular guest singer for Swan Hellenic Cruises, giving concerts of Classical and Music Theatre songs.
