Mark started playing the snare drum in a Pipe band at the age of ten years old. At the age of eleven he became the leading drummer of the drum corps and at the age of fifteen he started teaching the snare drum. He competed in many competitions with the band and was successful in solo snare drumming competitions that he entered.
At the age of seventeen Mark took up the drum kit and started teaching drum kit in 1994. Mark teaches all aspects of theory and practical drumming and Trinity Guildhall and Rockschool grades for those wishing to take exams. He has studied with Paul Francis, one of the UK's top Drum teachers from Orchard percussion studios for over ten years and has also attended many seminars. In 2005 Mark received an award from the Vic Firth company for his contribution to drum education. Mark has written two books on the subject of snare Drumming and advanced stick control called "A Different Approach" and the second book is a book on Drum kit which is soon to be released.
Mark has performed at The Royal Festival Hall in London, Birmingham NEC, The Derngate Theatre, Birmingham Symphony Hall. Other performances include The Sound republic in Leicester Square, The Dublin Castle, Half Moon, West one four, to name a few. Support slots include James, The Fine Young Cannibals, Barbara Dickson, London Beat, Let Loose, Rozzalla, Eric Bell, The Sugababes, Liberty X, The London Community Gospel choir and Kym Marsh. Mark has recorded and performed with many artists including Dave Bartram, Ruby Turner, Paul Slocombe and opera singer Wei Lei. He has worked for Sky tv and performed on radio and tv locally and nationally. Recently Mark has recorded with the accomplished German singer / songwriter Kimberley McLean and played on her two NCM number one singles and has performed showcases for Sony Music and Mercury records with "The Revelations". He has also recorded for Virgin records, Polydor and Warner Brothers. Mark currently plays with the band Elevision featuring "Fame Academy" finalist Sam Jones and also plays with The Band From County Hell in Theatres up and down the UK.
