Mr Iain Jackson

Biography

Iain discovered a flair for the piano at a young age and progressed rapidly through the grades whilst at school, achieving grade 8 distinction at the age of 14. He also achieved grade 8 on trombone at the same age, and the two instruments vied for prominence in his youth.

After completing A-levels, Iain declined the offer to study trombone at the Royal College of Music in favour of the piano, studying instead at Birmingham University, taking piano lessons at the Birmingham Conservatoire. He discovered a talent for composition during this time, and went on to study composition and piano at the Royal Academy of Music, London.

As well as being classically trained to a high standard, Iain has always harboured an interest in jazz, and pursued this by working as a cruise ship pianist for nearly two years, acquiring an easy familiarity with a vast array of popular styles of music. He followed this up by training to be a music teacher, and completed 2 years of full-time teaching for Worcestershire LEA.

Iain has always gained the most fulfillment from accompanying other musicians and in 2006 Iain teamed up with virtuoso multi-brass instrumentalist James Stretton to form the recital duo orichalcum World of Brass. He is also a member of The Midnight Cabaret Band, specialising in after-dinner entertainment for weddings and parties.

Today equally at home with classical or jazz, he is much sought after as soloist, accompanist and piano teacher.
