As a dedicated and committed drum kit player and percussionist for over a decade, I have extensive experience with a wide variety of percussion instrumentation including drum kit, xylophone, timpani, glockenspiel and other auxiliary percussion.
After adopting piano at an early age, it wasn’t long before I turned to the drum kit for inspiration whilst studying music at Rastrick High School, Brighouse under the instruction of Jonathan Marriott. An attachment to the drums was immediate. I quickly joined local bands and begun gigging around the area whilst building confidence in a live environment. Subsequently, I was appointed first percussionist for RHS concert band and whilst performing at various events around the calendar I assisted in the teaching of notation software Sibelius to younger students at the school in my spare time.
As a result, my passion for teaching emerged and I quickly begun private tutoring at the age of 16 – my students passed graded exams within my first 12-months of teaching, whilst I achieved both my GCSE (A*) and A-Level in Music.
Whilst teaching, I have participated in numerous session work, including percussion duties in national competitions for Elland Silver Senior Brass Band and Gawthorpe Brass, the latter under the enthusiastic direction of Stephen Bradnum. I participated in a bank of Noye’s Fludde performances at Halifax Parish Church and I have also undertaken projects and workshops with Whitewood and Fleming, with performances at venues such as the Lawrence Batley Theatre, Huddersfield. In addition, I have also been commissioned session work with regional choirs at the Victoria Theatre, Halifax.
Between 2002 and 2005 I chiefly organised and participated in music events raising money for Neurosurgical Research, with direct proceeds amounting to over £13,000.00. Performances took place around the region, including The Viaduct Theatre based in Dean Clough, Halifax.
Whilst studying at Leeds Metropolitan University, I co-founded new songwriting and music production group The Freefall Music Co., specialising in creating dynamic and commercial tracks for release around the world.
Subsequently, I am now a member of the British Academy of Composers, Songwriters and Authors and also a registered PRS for Music and PPL member.
I am also the co-founder of a new music management company WordofMouth Management, specialising in developing emerging talent and I have worked backstage at many major music events including Leeds Festival, Download Festival, Wireless Festival and the BRIT Awards.
Shortly after completing my BA (Hons) at Leeds Metropolitan University I recorded, engineered and produced drum, percussion and keyboard tracks for Rod Jones (Idlewild) debut solo album, A Sentimental Education.
The album was released in Europe (and digitally worldwide) on 26 April 2010 and is available in all major retailers.
A Sentimental Education received critical acclaim, including a 5 star review by R2 Rock ‘n’ Reel, the UK’s best selling eclectic music magazine.
In early 2014 I moved to London and continue to write, record and teach daily, working with a wide variety of artists and musicians up and down the country.
