I am a self-taught flautist living in Whiteley, Hampshire, UK. I come from a musical family, my father Allan Mead having played French Horn in the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra after studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. My passion for the flute started from the age of 16 after playing the trumpet to around grade 6 standard. James Galway is a great inspiration to me. I currently play flute in the Charity Symphony Orchestra and have played with the BBC Ariel Orchestra (Maida Vale Studios, London). I have also played with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, at Maida Vale, and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, at various South/South West venues. I am a Student Member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (SMISM). I have previously composed some music for a project entitled 'Creative Interpretations of the Microworld' funded by the Vice-President's Fund Award of the Royal Microscopical Society. I am also learning violin, viola and clarinet.
