As an educator, Jim has been teaching
piano, composition and music theory for 37
years. He has also taught within schools, in further
education, with London City Ballet, at the City Lit
(London) and as a visiting lecturer at the
Royal College of Art.

Jim had a classical music education and is an
expert in music notation. He has been writing
music since 1977.
Having studied at Morley College, London, Jim
has composed music using computers since 1988.

As a composer, Jim has written music for
exhibitions including the Cutting Edge exhibition
for the V&A which is available on the President
His concert music is played worldwide and includes
many works for solo piano (including music
accessible to amateur pianists), five spoken-word
operas, and work for electronics.

As a solo pianist Jim performs a
classical repertoire specializing in the music
of Erik Satie and his followers.

In 2005, Jim founded the publishing house
SOUNDkiosk Editions and now works with
Professor Robert Orledge on new editions of
music by Erik Satie, Claude Debussy and others.
Jim has arranged work by Erik Satie and Franz
Liszt and published work by Satie, Debussy,
Liszt and a number of living composers.

Since 2012, Jim has been composing Waterways
of Lincoln for piano, voice and electronics.
