About me:

I am an experienced and passionate piano teacher and performer. I am currently studying a Master of Arts in jazz piano performance at the Royal Academy of Music. In 2015, I completed a Bachelor of Music (Performance-Jazz) where I received a First Class Honours result. I can teach many styles of piano performance, such as classical or pop, along with music theory and composition.

Teaching experience and approach:

I am experienced in teaching both private students and group classes. For the past three years I have been a piano tutor with Play Music, Aria Music, The Music Partnerships, and Inner West Music College, in Sydney, Australia. I have also been teaching piano privately and in holiday programs since 2010. As part of my undergraduate studies at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, I travelled around regional Australia to give workshops and performance demonstrations at various schools, and worked as an intern lecturer at both the Murray Conservatorium in Albury and the Wollongong Conservatorium.

While I specialize in jazz performance, I am equally comfortable in classical (I studied with classical pianists in my undergraduate degree) and popular music performance, and can teach any of these genres as well as offering a combination. I also have experience in putting students through examinations, and in teaching music theory and composition. These aspects of my performance and teaching history makes me well suited to teach a broad range of students, from the very beginner level up to advanced.

I am passionate about teaching, and I find it an immensely enjoyable experience to watch a student grow and develop. I like the challenge of finding new ways to help a student solve a problem, and I firmly believe in showing them all the possibilities playing music has to offer, as well as demonstrating to them the incredible fun music can be.

Problem solving in particular plays a large part in my teaching philosophy. I try to actively listen to the needs of my students at all times, and work with them to find solutions and ways to practice material, instead of just solving the problem for them. I believe this provides a thorough musical grounding, and is the ideal starting place for the student’s own musical voice to grow.
