Whatever your age and experience, let's enjoy exploring the piano and learning something new!

:: About me:

I'm a versatile musician and enjoy playing a wide range of music including blues, latin and pop piano alongside classical favourites. I trained classically as a pianist and cellist, and have been playing the piano for over 20 years. I've played in a wide range of ensembles, including string quartets, orchestras, jazz bands and choirs. I also write music and regularly perform in various bands.

I'm very passionate about teaching music, and I specialise in teaching beginners to intermediate level (around Grade 5), both children and adults. I can teach complete beginners as well as people who have some experience and would like to improve. I can prepare students for grades, or teach people who would like to play for enjoyment and just learn something new!

:: What to expect from my lessons:

I encourage a well-rounded sense of musicianship, and blend playing enjoyable pieces with technical exercises and music theory into my lessons. I welcome students' creativity during lessons, and seek to help them build a repertoire that they really enjoy playing.

It's great when pupils know what music that they want to play, and I'm happy to teach music that they bring to me. This has ranged from Bach to Billie Holliday classics; to blues, pop songs, and many Disney tunes! Of course, if your passion is developing a classical repertoire, then we can focus on that.

I have lots of experience with children of all ages, and though I don't set an age limit, I recommend waiting until children are able to focus their attention before starting lessons.

I really enjoy teaching adults, and admire having the perseverance to take up an instrument later on. I appreciate the time constraints that often arise with having work commitments, and advise adult pupils to try to keep regular lessons even if it's sometimes difficult to squeeze in time for practice.

:: Lesson format:

I advise 45 mins for children, to cover 30 mins practical and 15 mins theory, aural or composition.

1 hour for adults and teenagers. 1 hour is also possible for children who are focussed and motivated!

I teach at the pupil's house across Ilford, Goodmayes, Seven Kings, Gants Hill, Romford, Barking, Chadwell Heath, Wanstead, Woodford. I teach across Redbridge, Newham, Barking and Havering.

Please contact me if you live elsewhere as I may be able to travel for a longer teaching session in the same area (min. 2 hours, e.g. parent and child, siblings, neighbours).
