Dhivya Kumaramurthy began to learn the Carnatic Violin at the tender age of 10. It was her late maternal grandmother, who was also a Carnatic Violin Teacher, back in Sri Lanka, whom influenced Dhivya to learn the Carnatic Violin.
Dhivya’s initial training in the violin began with Smt. Kalaivani Indrakumar and she had her Arangetram Debut in October 2006, accompanied with her sister, on the Thabla. Dhivya began to learn the Carnatic Vocal at the age of seven . She began learning under Smt.Pushkala Gopal and Smt.Vimala Thanabalasingam. Since then she continued her further training from in both Carnatic Violin and Carnatic Vocal from Indian artistes.
Dhivya is currently based in Redbridge in Essex. She teaches all ages and all standards (beginners- advanced) of both Carnatic violin and vocal. She teaches the importance of Carnatic music to the younger generation. She also prepares violin and vocal students for annual examinations and cultural performances. She has been a member of Tarang (the only South Asian orchestra group in the UK) since 2013. She has performed in various venues: Cambridge, Lake District and Liverpool to name a few.
Since teaching both Carnatic Violin and Carnatic Vocal, she has broadened her teaching base and has grown a passion for teaching. Her main motive is to make sure the students enjoy the music, whilst playing the instrument or singing. In addition to this Dhivya has also learnt the Western Violin and Western Singing.

I can accommodate students at my home. I am flexible both during the weekday evenings and weekends.
