Hello! I am a professional musician and educator and I love sharing my passion for music. I have performed for several years in bands including The Lindie Quartet and The Flyting, and I have also taught adult community choirs and group singing for the past 6 years. I moved down to Newcastle from Edinburgh in 2010 to study at Newcastle University in 2010 and I couldn't bear to leave!
I play folk and traditional music professionally but I also have experience playing classical, popular and contemporary music on piano and voice. My own musical interest are far reaching - from Chopin to Dolly Parton, traditional music to Ella Fitzgerald. I believe that the best way to progress is to follow your own musical interests - however random they might be!
I have taught voice in community choir and group music for several organisations including Sage Gateshead, South Shields Libraries and Crossings over the past six years I have taught instrumental and music theory on a casual basis for several years.
I always listen to the learner to find out what your goals and motivation are and tailor lessons to suit you. I believe in using different teaching styles depending on the students' needs including musical notation, chord symbols and learning by ear. For both singing and piano I encourage learning proper technique to keep you singing and playing happily. I believe that everyone has the ability to sing and to play, and I love helping people discover their own musical voice.
Repertoire, teaching styles, lesson length and regularity all depends on the learner - and I am happy to offer a free consultation before your first lesson to make sure we are on the same page. Lessons can be 30 mins-1 hour depending on what works for you.
I am currently only teaching online, I hope to be back up and running with in person lessons as soon as is safely possible.
