John Cheer was born in Brentwood, Essex, and as a teenager studied piano and organ in the Saturday Junior Department of Trinity College of Music. In 1987 he moved to Cardiff to read physics and music at the University, also continuing his organ studies. <br />

John enjoys making music in a wide range of situations. As accompanist or continuo player he has worked with a number of groups including Concerto Gallese, Sine Nomine Singers and Vivace Singers. He is also the regular accompanist for Llandaff Cathedral Choral Society. As organist he has given recitals in the Cardiff area, and he is a regular contributor to the Daily Service on Radio 4. Meanwhile he takes an active part in more informal music making in the church he attends with his wife and three children. John has been teaching the piano and organ for a number of years and was until recently a Junior Music Tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.<br />

John qualified as a Music Therapist in 2009 and now works part time for Bristol Community Health in the Learning Difficulties Team.
