Notes:
I have enjoyed a highly rewarding teaching career for almost 10 years now. Over this period I have worked with a wide age-range of students from young children to adults.
My students have a 100 percent pass rate in the ABRSM graded exams and many of them achieve merits and distinctions. Some have gone on to achieve music scholarships at high-ranking independent schools or attend Saturday morning music schools.
I have taught composition and musicianship at Junior Trinity and worked on education projects with UK orchestras/musical charities. I have experience in teaching children with learning difficulties.
My approach to teaching consists of encouraging students to be passionate about music, backed up by a strong theoretical and historical appreciation of the subject. As well as achieving great results in their performance exams, many of my students have also explored composition and improvisation. Some have already written accomplished songs at a very young age. I like to involve parents in the learning process so that the hard work and achievements made in the lessons can be continued at home.
I am also highly active in my career as an award winning professional composer, currently composer-in-residence at Scottish Opera and artistic director of Live Music Sculpture. My music is published by Stainer & Bell.
I have an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate and I'm a member of the DBS Update Service.
