Instruments: Piano
Genre/Style(s): Classical and music inspired by jazz. Teaching and performance coach for all ABRSM and Trinity grades.
Ability Levels: Beginners to Advanced

I enjoy teaching piano at all levels and have some 40 students at any one time, from beginner to Grade 8 and diploma standard, focusing mainly on the classical repertoire and music inspired by jazz.

It's true that there's no short-cut to an excellent technique. It does require many hours. But mindless repetition isn't the way forward. Practicing can be hugely enjoyable in its own right, if it is a thoughtful process and leads to clear results.
For that reason, my lessons are not merely 'guided rehearsals'. While we do spend time working through aspects of technique and performance which students find most challenging, we invent exercises, devise survival strategies and look for music which can help build skills and provide a sense of continual progress.
I feel equally strongly about developing students' abilities to listen attentively, to appraise their own and others' performance, and build techniques for private practice which will help them meet their own expectations.

I also offer performance coaching and accompaniment to help instrumentals prepare for auditions and recitals, and lessons in music theory and analysis relevant to ABRSM, GCSE and A level examinations.
