I am an experienced musician with a Music degree from the University of Birmingham. I have played the piano and flute for 15 years, and play many other instruments besides, including saxophone, guitar, bass guitar and ukulele among others. I enjoy listening to and playing all genres of music, and have played all my instruments at various times in various bands and ensembles throughout my career.

I have many years experience leading choirs for adults, which involves teaching parts to individuals and leading the whole group through a performance. In addition, I am a qualified primary school teacher, giving me a good understanding of pedagogical techniques, as well as a good knowledge of how people (particularly children) learn. I also therefore have a valid DBS certificate.

My enthusiasm for music has been said to be infectious, and I am excited about sharing my love of music with others, including students. While I recognise that a student's progress in their musical discipline is of utmost importance, I believe that this is only possible when the student enjoys the music they are experiencing. For this reason, I provide a wide range of musical options for young beginners to discover their musical tastes, and I encourage more experienced musicians to guide their own learning and to play what they enjoy playing. I would encourage students to work towards exams if that is what is desired.
