Recently described by James R. Oestreich, New York Times as:
‘…you had the sense that you were listening to the future, and the near future at that.’

Svetlana started learning cello at the age of five and the following year joined a specialist music school in Voronezh, Russia. At the age of eight she started competing in national and international competitions and aged 11 made her debut with the Voronezh Symphony Orchestra, followed by a performance of Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto in Voronezh Town Hall a year later. Regular performances with various orchestras in Russia and the UK have followed ever since.
Receiving a full scholarship Svetlana then studied at The Purcell School, under Natalia Pavlutskaya. A scholarship to the Royal Northern College of Music saw her studying with Hannah Roberts from 2006, and she graduated with first class honours prior to completing a Master of Music in Solo Performance with distinction.
She has participated in a number of festivals and summer courses among them: The Three Choirs Festival, MBNA Chester Music the Festival, Piatigorsky International Cello Festival in Los Angeles, the International Kronberg Academy Cello Masterclasses, the London Masterclasses and Manchester International Cello Festival. She has taken part in masterclasses with Ralph Kirshbaum, Heinrich Schiff, Garry Hoffman, Lynn Harrell, Mstislav Rostropovich, Miklós Perényi, Raphael Wallfisch, Karine Georgian, Robert Cohen and Giovanni Sollima.
Svetlana was awarded second prize at the Bromsgrove Festival International Young Musicians’ Platform. And since 2013 has been a member of the Britten-Pears Young Artist Programme. She is currently on trial with Manchester Camerata.
Svetlana is extremely grateful for the support she received during her studies at the RNCM and would like to thank the RNCM scholarship, The RPS Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Foundation, Philharmonia Orchestra Martin Musical Scholarship Fund, Muriel Berry Scholarship, Leverhulme Trust, The Stephen Bell Charitable Trust Award, Allan & Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust, The Haworth Trust and Help Musicians Postgraduate Performance Award and Mr&Mrs Garner for their continued support.
